The Deposits of Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire and Jade

The Himalayas-the world’s largest mountain chain-is rich in gem deposits. Raised by the collision of India with the rest of Asia, the growing chain was a fertile environment for gem formation. Deposits include emeralds in Afghanistan and Pakistan, rubies in Nepal and Myanmar, and Burmese jade.
